Here's another early UPA short, the John Hubley directed "Fuddy Duddy Buddy". The opening scene of Magoo trying to convince Bottomley to play tennis is really well animated. I'm not sure but I think Pat Matthews animated the scene where the walrus charges the net during the game of tennis. I think the following shot of Magoo might also be Matthews but I'm not too sure. Of course, Paul Julian's backgrounds are great too.

i love how mcgoo is so enthusiastic even though he has no idea what's actually going on around him! that bit in the beginning is great, all his little moves with the tennis racket are really nice.
Jim Backus did great as Magoo. I kinda like the animation of when the walrus serves the ball playing tennis.
This cartoon is phemonenal. I love Jim Backus's voice. John Hubley did a great job directing this. Wonderful designs and layout. Just beautiful all the way around.
Great background designs. I see my old Chouinard animation teacher and mentor Rudy Larriva was one of the animators too. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
A fantastic 'toon altogether - even when Magoo *does* realise his error, he goes along with it. The ending us nothing short of genius :D
Was rather surprised to find Bill Lava scoring this cartoon, given to his first few scoring of the LT shorts come Milk Franklyn's death. Unusually jolly here.
In fact, the entire introduction is very reminiscent of Franklyn's musical score, with a hint of Carl Stalling tossed in 8-)
A very nice download. This is obviously one of the better early Magoo cartoons. I'd posted a couple of storyboard drawings from it a while ago. Maybe I'll repost them this week with a link to your site. Thanks.
Hi Michael, I must've missed your storyboard posts from this one. I'm off to check 'em out now. Love to see anything else you have.
Now,THAT---
THAT was funny!
This is the first time I've ever seen the theatrical Magoos...thank you for posting this!
Kevin: Man, was that cool! I love the part when the walrus, very rightiously, says "out."
"I don't care what kind of walrus he is, I like him!" - that's Magood all over!
Great post!
