Mickey Mouse Model Sheet

Does anyone else find drawing Mickey as hard as I do? It seems like if one little line is wrong he ends up looking nothing like Mickey. He's built on simple shapes but I just never seem to really get it right. Oh well, I guess that's what practice is for. Here's a couple of model sheets of Mickey. Check out Mark Mayerson's post that he did back in June for some great Fred Moore models from "The Little Whirlwind". Then check out Hans Perk's animation drafts from the same cartoon.

Glad you liked the post. I haven't posted much Disney work. I've just recently really given them a chance. I've always love the craftsmanship but never really found them funny. I still don't laugh nearly as much as I would compared to Woody Woodpecker or Bugs Bunny but I'm enjoying them more and more.

Man, you've got that right! I've yet to draw a decent Mickey.

"You just trace some quarters and dimes and there you have it!"

YEAH, SURE!

Thanks for the model sheets. Maybe I'll give the mouse yet another try...

THANK YOU! Ive been trying to look for Mickey Mouse model sheets for a while.

I practice drawing Mickey a lot so I dont find him to difficult to draw. I have a few drawings of him on my blog if you keep strolling down, and Im gonna post some more real soon. They're definatly not as good as the orginals but they are pretty close and I can tell what mistakes I've made.

I have a miniture collectable of the 2nd model sheet.

You wouldn't happen to have a model sheet of Mickey from the period where he had ears that moved in perspective? That's my favorite design of the "Pupil-eyes" era of Mickey.

Thanks for posting these.

McNuggetinator, you have the coolest avatar ever! I love that scene.

I don't have a model sheet of Mickey with the perspective ears. I'll keep an eye out and post it if I find one.

I hope you guys checked out the Fred Moore drawings I linked to. I love the way he draws Mickey.

The Fred Moore drawings for The Little Whirlwind are from the time Mickey had perspective ears, but that doesn't really come across in most of the drawings.

Now a days a think Mickey is a nice charecter to make "free interpretation" I'll be posting some Mickeys ,the same way I post(some months ago) Woody Woodpecker and friends on:

Jackpot indeed! I love the way some old model sheets give you step by step instructions on how to draw the character.

Mickey is hard to draw effectively, and my attempts ended up as Monkey the Teddybear enough times to prove it. Not only that, I know an animator who works for National Film Board and knows anime very well and he has trouble with Mickey too.

Getting the attitude and the proportions that sweet is an elusive thing. It took Charles M. Schulz until the early 1970s to give the Peanuts characters that familiar, attractive look.

BTW, it's amazing how bad the model sheets in Illusion Of Life are for Mickey; even with all those instructions you learn nothing. Thank goodness for blogs like this where the original good model sheets finally escape the dungeons.
