Jack Kinney - "Motor Mania"

Jack Kinney has made my list of favorite directors. (Thanks for getting me into his work Thad) He seems to be the one at Disney who was best at making cartoons along the rowdy Warner Bros. style. His shorts aren't sweet and sugary like his contemporaries were making at Disney. Just check out "Duck Pimples" "Hockey Homicide" and this great short "Motor Mania". Goofy's just a road raging dick throughout. Also, the backgrounds by Claude Coats are great. I'd love to own one of those.

Isn't this first time that Goofy was portrayed as a suburbanite character?

This cartoon's awesome, and I've never seen it before. Thanks for sharing.

It's amazing how observant this cartoon is. I think most anyone who's driven a car can relate to stuff in here, like "30 seconds from my life, gone!" when having to wait at a stoplight. :)

Talk about a timeless classic! This cartoon still appplies to today's drivers and as Roger Rabiit once said, "...that Goofy, what a genius!"

No, I have a difficult time acknowledging that Mr. Walker/Wheeler here is the "real" Goofy. No ears, no lerge teeth, almost a completely different design, and the only thing that connects him to Goofy are the opening titles.

It's a great cartoon, but I can't think of "Goofy" here as being anything but a generic dog-faced chcaracter that kinda resembles him.

This is a great piece of unpretentious social satire. It's a shame Disney didn't do more cartoons in that vein.

If you haven't already read it, I recommend Kinney's book "Walt Disney and assorted other characters". Not available on Amazon's main site but I found it on pricegrabber.com

Thanks Cartoonsteve! I was wondering if that was a good book. I've been wanting to pick it up.

Wonderful thank you for posting this.

We had a teacher at Sheridan who's name was Mr. Wheeler.
Quite similar when marking our assignments :( !
