Tex Avery's Little Rural Riding Hood

This is the last of the cartoons made featuring Tex's Wolf and Red together. It's a classic and I was surprised it wasn't already up on YouTube. Red's dance routine in this one is reused animation by Preston Blair from 1945's Swing Shift Cinderella. For anyone who is interested, Red's singing voice was supplied by Iomogene Lynn who was a vocalist for Ray McKinley's band, in I believe 1942, and then later for Artie Shaw in 1945. I've only managed to dig up 7 songs that she sang on with Artie Shaw's Orchestra. She later went on to sing on various movie soundtracks and was a backup singer for Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. You may also recognize the voice of Wolf's county cousin, voiced by Pinto Colvig who also provided Goofy's voice. I've also posted some great layouts from this short in addition to the ones here.

Tom and Jerry Layouts

Here's some scans of some Tom and Jerry layouts and animation, plus a model sheet of Jerry. I think it was posted once by Jerry Beck on Cartoon Brew.
This one above is my favorite. I'm pretty sure it's from one of Irv Spence's scenes in Quiet Please. Check out Thad Komorowski's great posts about Tom and Jerry's animators here and over here, oh here too, and don't forget here.

Baby's New Formula

I don't have any of my own work to post right now so I going to share this beauty with you. Baby's New Formula was created by Aaron Springer whom you may know from SpongeBob and The God Damn George Liqour Program. He also had created the Perriwinkle shorts from Cartoon Networks short lived show Sunday Pants. I have to see if I have any of those still, if so I'll share. John K. supplied one of the voices. Just a heads up, this one is NOT for the kiddies.

The Shooting Of Dan McGoo & Wild and Woolfy

You might be starting to figure out that I'm a bit of a Tex Avery nut. If I had enough art and movies I'd probably just turn this into a tribute page. Anyway, The Shooting Of Dan McGoo is my favorite right now. Check out Red's bouncy dance moves after the Wolf burns holes through the newspaper, I just think it's incredible. There aren't many animators better than Preston Blair. Enjoy!

Heckle and Jeckle

Heckle and Jeckle used to be a morning TV staple. Where the hell are they now? I always read a lot of criticism of Terrytoons production values but I've always enjoyed them. All those wonderfully animated dance scenes in those Mighty Mouse cartoons, those gorgeous character paintings to open each cartoon and above all else JIM TYER. You can always count on a good Jim Tyer scene or two. I posted these two shorts on youtube. If you want more Heckle and Jeckle let me know as I have just about all of them. Be sure to check back and follow the progress of my own cartoon. Talk about poor production values. Yeesh.

Backgrounds

Here's a couple of backgrounds. I'm going to try and paint these, if they come out shitty I guess I'll just use Photoshop.

More Tex Avery Model Sheets

Here's so more Tex Avery model sheets. John K. suggested that I post these as they're favorites of his so how could I resist. These were drawn by Irv Spence who was an animator on many of Tex's shorts. Plus some of the best Tom and Jerry shorts and even on Ralph Bakshi's films. Please check out Cartoon Diary: The 1944 Cartoon Diary of Irv Spence, it has some really great drawings on it. If your curious, these model sheets can be found in John Canemaker's book Tex Avery: MGM Years. I believe it's now out of print but if you see a copy grab it. It's loaded with great images. I'm sure anyone who owns it will agree.

There's also some more I posted over here at DrawingBoard.org.

Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon DVD!!!!

I'm a huge fan of John K and Spumco's work and I almost shit (it turned out to be just a really wet fart) when I saw the announcement recently that Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon is coming to DVD. John K. posted some clips of the unaired Ren and Stimpy episodes on his blog. Check them out and pre-order the DVD. I loved APC when it aired and have been dying for the unaired episodes. The crew he assembled really seemed to start rolling with the unaired episodes. It's a shame more weren't made. BUY THE DVD AND MAYBE THERE WILL BE MORE MADE! TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Check out John's Blog it's so inspiring and informative.

John K. Stuff

Since I'm plugging away already, please check out the links to Wil Branca's cartoon New World Order. It looks like it's going to be one great cartoon when it's done. While your at it check out Nick Cross' Plog documenting his work on his cartoon The Waif Of Persephone. His work speaks for itself. Both of them worked on Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon and are great cartoonists in their own right.

I feel kinda cheap and dirty now, but it's for a good cause.

Pied Piper of Basin Street and Boogie Woogie Man

I used to love watching Walter Lantz cartoons as a kid. I'm especially fond of Darrell Calker's music. You can't beat the combination of swing and cartoons. It's too bad this stuff isn't out on DVD. Here's a couple of Swing Symphonies I uploaded to Youtube. Enjoy! Thanks to Amid at Cartoon Brew for the link.

Scene Tests With More Color

I've finished inking and coloring some more of this scene. Just a little more animating left to do and then on to the next scene. Comments and especially critiques are most welcome.

Here's a really short clip that's completed.
