Fox and Crow - "Punchy De Leon"


This is the very last of the Fox and Crow shorts and the third one by UPA. It's a shame they abandoned the characters as really love the Fox's design. While I think "Robin Hoodlum" and "The Magic Fluke" are better cartoons this is still a really great looking film.

    Bill Melendez was an animator on this cartoon. Beautifully funny stuff! I wish UPA continued making these kinds of cartoons.

    While I like some of UPA earlier cartoons I agree with you, it's a shame they didn't continue making cartoons like and the other two Fox and Crow.

    Pat Matthews animated on this too right? I'm pretty sure that's him animating some the early scenes with the King. Maybe even Fox at the pottery wheel?

    I'm a fan of the Fox & the Crow, & it's a shame they didn't continue on with those characters. Although I'm glad Klasky-Csupo decided not to go through with their own version of F&C a few years back. Yuck!

    I love the scene where the Fox thinks of where he found the Fountain of Youth, around 1:25 into the cartoon. Great animation there. Does anybody know who drew that scene?

    Funny, really. Sometimes, I find myself liking and disliking Foxie's design - no tail and red nose. Some parts of this cartoon made me think he was Wile E. Coyote, espicially in his expressions and acting. XD

    I agree with all, though. UPA should have carried on with F&C. They did a much better job with those two than Columbia did. (Only couting the weakest 'toons, of course)

    I thought that was a joke that the folks at Golden Age Cartoons made up.

    I like the funny expression on the king around 1:44. Great designs, too. Too bad only three Fox and Crow cartoons were made at UPA.

    Sounds an awful lot like it, and this was released before the "Three Little Pups". Though Paul Frees is credited with Crow's voice.
