I stumbled across the above comic by Henry Gaines Goodman some time ago and immediately needed to find more of his work as I had never heard of him and love his sleek, clean ink lines. This particular panel is from a 1959 issue of the men's magazine "Gaze". A little online research led me to a short newspaper profile in the South Carolina paper "The Greenville News", which ran dailies of Goodman's strip "Honeydew". The strip ran in a few other papers mostly on the east coast during the early 1970s. Goodman was a former chemist for Union Carbide that dabbled in cartoons for trade magazines for leisure. Upon his retirement he created Honeydew to pass the time. The strip ran from 1971 until 1974, as it was dropped when the paper cut back on features. He never syndicated the strip. Thankfully the Greenville News site has an archive and preserved many of the strips. Here a few to enjoy.
