Art Davis - "Bowery Bugs"

"Bowery Bugs" was Davis' only short that starred Bugs Bunny. Phil DeGuard painted some great backgrounds in this one (not that he didn't paint great ones in other cartoons.) Here's a model sheet of Steve Brody, who's great voice was provided by Billy Bletcher, and some backgrounds by Philip DeGuard.

I personally think Chuck Jones & Arthur Davis had the 'best looking' cartoons. :)
Anyways, this is competing with Hare Ribbin as my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoon. Buckaroo Bugs & Little Red Riding Rabbit are pretty close too.

I remember seeing this one being constantly re-shown on The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show, and it never bored me to tears. I was shocked with how much was cut out, when I had the chance to watch it on the third Volume of the LTGC.

This happens to be one of my top favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons, alongside Chuck Jones'"Hare Conditioned". I like them both, mostly because of the animation & the outrageous wackiness (although not as extreme as Avery or Clampett, but wacky just the same).

I forgot Billy Bletcher voiced Brody in this cartoon. I thought he was strictly a Disney guy (Pegleg Pete, Big Bad Wolf, etc). Was he in any other Warner cartoons besides this?

Sure, Billy was in a bunch of Warner's shorts. Mississippi Hare, Little Red Riding Rabbit, Rabbit Punch and whole mess of others. He even voiced tons of MGM stuff from Captain and the Kids to Barney Bear shorts.

That was a good one! I wish Arthur Davis had directed some more Bugs Bunny cartoons. His team sure drew a nice looking rabbit, one of the best versions of Bugs outside of Clampett's unit.

Yeah I like this Davis' bugs too. It sort of a combination of Clampetts and the design McKimson used in his cartoons.

Now that I think about it, Frank Tashlin never really used Bugs, or Elmer in any of the shorts he directed (save for a few bit apperances, but that's it). I wonder why, so would you have the answer Kevin?

I never liked the bulky Bugs design but this cartoon is great.

i love that jab "the forest primeval...in FLATBUSH."

i guess it's just a ny inside joke, but flatbush is a crappy neighborhood in brooklyn so in this cartoon they made it like this lawless country haha! that sign that points to "greenpernt" is my neighborhood...greenpoint.

amazing!

My favorite part of this cartoon is where Bugs shouts "THAT'S YOU, FATHEAD!"

This cartoon looked especially McKimson-ish, mainly because of Bugs' design. A great cartoon.

I am Arthur Davis' great grand daughter, Sophia Davis and I would just like to thank all of you for your great comments about my GG's (great grandpa's) work. He was a very talented man and would have loved to see all of the support from you guys.
Thank You.
