Barney Bear - "Barney's Hungry Cousin"

I'm going to interrupt these Screwy Squirrel posts to throw in one of my favorite Barney Bear shorts directed by Dick Lundy, "Barney's Hungry Cousin". Though Lundy's shorts aren't on the comedic level of Tex Avery's I think they're real funny and he at least had Tex's great animator's working on them. I love the bear's design in this one. He reminds me of the "hick" wolf in Tex's "Little Rural Riding Hood". Here's some model sheets I found online some time ago. Though they're not from Lundy's unit, they're most likely from one of Rudy Ising's shorts or possibly even George Gordon's.

thanks for posting these, kevin! barney is one of my most beloved animated characters and your devotion to the cartoon classics is praiseworthy.

Those pencil drawings are so full of life.

I always felt bad for Barney, especially in this cartoon. He's always got some sort of bad luck & the other bear never got what he deserved.

Thanks for the link Stoyan! Finally, another Barney lover.

Yeah, in this one he really didn't do anything to provoke the other bear. Unlike the other Lundy shorts, where he seems to be butting into everyone elses business. Even though if he has good intentions.

Glad everyone liked those pencil drawings. I think those were from an ebay auction. I'm sure they were out of my price range, I would've loved to own those.

HAHAHA! hey! that was a funny cartoon! just watched it. i don't think i had ever seen that one before. the very beginning had some really good gags in it! one later gag that i thought was awesome was when the forest bear was falling, all chained up, and smoothly got out right as the booth crashed to pieces. i also thought the ending was hilarious where as soon as barney is fed up & actually OFFERS food to him, he gets all righteous & TELLS on him lol!!

great cartoon and thanks for posting it!

Thanks for posting these models. The early Barney Bear cartoons of Harman Ising are among my favorite shorts. "Rainy Day" is near brilliant. Though I have to say I don't like with they did with him post-WWII
