Tex Avery - "Half Pint Pygmy" Model Sheets

Here's two great model sheets drawn by Louis Schmitt from the last George and Junior short. While I like the character designs I don't think of them as George and Junior. Thad posted the cartoon as part of last Saturday's bowl of WTF so check it out there.

Officer Mutt Comics

I recently got a hold of issue number 5 of Red Rabbit Comics. I'm assuming like Foxy Fagan, this is also a collaboration between Harvey Eisenberg and Joe Barbera. Most of the star characters are directly or indirectly taken from MGM characters. King Looey the Lion is basically the lion from "Jerry And The Lion", Slapsy Squirrel is Screwy Squirrel with pants, and Officer Mutt is just Officer Pooch revisited from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name.

The comic is in awful shape and was literally falling to pieces as I read it so I made sure to scan the whole thing before it completely disintegrates. The artwork is fantastic so I'll be sure to post the whole thing in a few different posts. Though maybe not the covers, as there's not much left of them. Luckily the rest of comic is in better shape.

Popeye - "Goonland"

I'm really looking forward to the next Popeye set that's coming out soon. Can't wait to see this and so many other great cartoons restored. Bob Jaques posted some screencaps to compare the TV prints with the new restored cartoons. I you haven't already, check out Bob's blog for all things Popeye. Here's a crappy print to hold us over until the set comes out.

*Update*- I forgot to post this model sheet that the Masked Stinker sent me. Thanks for the reminder Stinker.

Tex Avery - "Ventriloquist Cat"

Another Tex Avery classic animated by Michael Lah, Walt Clinton and Grant Simmons. Grant Simmons' Spike is hilarious. They're are without a doubt my favorite unit out of all the animators and directors from any of the studios that were making theatrical shorts.

Yosemite Sam Model Sheets

It's been awhile since I've posted any model sheets and I was going through some folders and found these tucked away. I forgot I scanned these. The first model sheet of Yosemite Sam is really appealing, especially when compared to the one on the bottom. I also uploaded Sam's first appearance, the Freleng short "Hare Trigger". This is one of my favorite Freleng shorts.

You may have noticed my blog has been a little less active than usual. That's because I've been busy with this little guy. Say hi to Liam Avery Langley. Sorry, I had to play proud papa for a moment.

HaHa Comics - Throckmorton

I'm posting this comic in hopes that someone will be able to tell me who the artist was. I'm curious to see if it was by an animator or not.

A. Flea - "An Itch In Time" and "A Horsefly Fleas"

Here's the two cartoons starring Bob Clampett's A. Flea, "An Itch In Time" and "A Horsefly Fleas". Clampett directed the far superior "An Itch In Time", while Bob McKimson directed "A Horsefly Fleas".

Dick Lundy - "Kiddie Koncert"

I love cartoons set strictly to music, so the Lantz Swing Symphonies series and Musical Miniatures are among my favorite cartoons to watch. Even if they're not loading with gags like a Tex Avery short. Here's Dick Lundy's "Kiddie Koncert" which is set to "Morning, Noon, and Night In Vienna".

A Flip cartoon, because he's fun.

Les Clark - "Mr. Duck Steps Out"

Here's a clip that I love of some great animation by Disney legend Les Clark. It's the type of fun and entertaining scene you just don't see anymore.

Animaland - "The Ostrich"

I was rather surprised to see that in a relatively short time that the last Animaland short I posted reached a thousand views on Dailymotion. I don't know if it's because some other blog or site linked to or if it's that they're just not as well known and people are curious. Either way here's another one that I really enjoy. "The Ostrich", released in 1949, seems more "Lantz" like than even some of the other Animaland shorts. I don't know if it's the song, "Dont Hide Your Head In The Sand" or if it's the father ostrich's design that just make me think of mid forties Lantz cartoons directed by Shamus Culhane and Dick Lundy. I think they're great cartoons and recommend the DVD to anyone slightly interested in them. Here's a few model sheets to go along with the cartoon.

Donald Comics

Here's a few Donald strips by Al Taliaferro from 1938.
