"The Draft Horse" Model Sheet

Seeing Yowp's post on Chuck Jones' "The Daft Horse" reminded me that I had scanned the model sheet from that cartoon. So here ya go.

"Little Orphan Airedale" Model Sheet

I found this model sheet on my hard drive, don't know if I scanned it from a book or found it online somewhere. At first I wasn't sure what Charlie Dog cartoon it was from, I should have recognized the Porky Pig pose from the beginning of "Little Orphan Airedale". I noticed that Dave Mackey's site didn't have the production number listed for the cartoon and that this model sheet had it. "The Foxy Duckling" was production number 1031 and "Airedale", production number 1032 was released two months later. I'm sure this info is probably known to the hardcore animation geeks but I hadn't come across it anywhere. Dave's site is where I usually go for that type of info so I was suprised the number wasn't there as I assumed this model sheet has been published somewhere before.

Chuck Jones - "Scent-Imental Over You"

I realized I rarely post anything by Chuck Jones. What's up with that? Though I don't find all the Pepe Le Pew shorts to be that great I enjoy "Scent-Imental Over You" mostly for the design of the scrawny little thing below.

Chuck Jones - "Often An Orphan"

This Jones short will be on Volume 6 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection. I love Charlie Dog, he's hilariously irritating, like Gilbert Gottfried.

Chuck Jones - "Case Of The Missing Hare"

I forgot I posted this on Dailymotion the other day. Does anyone know if Art Heinemann was still part of Jones' unit when this short was made? The color styling seems very similar to his other work with Jones and even with Shamus Culhane at Lantz. If not his influence is rather obvious.

Sniffles and The Bookworm Model Sheets

I'm sure there aren't too many rabid Sniffles fans out there considering how those cartoons pale in comparison to Chuck Jones' later shorts. Though I figured I'd post them as they're really solid drawings. Something I need to improve upon in my own crap.

Chuck Jones - "Bear For Punishment"

This may well be one of the funniest Chuck Jones cartoons ever. Big overgrown morons like Junyer, Baby Huey and Tex Avery's "Lenny types" always crack me up. Junior steals the show, but Mama Bear's dance routine is pretty great too. I believe Ken Harris animated that scene. I posted this model sheet before but I don't think I mentioned that it was drawn by the super awesome Art Heinemann.

Hell Bent For Election

This earliest of UPA films was was directed by Chuck Jones and made for the United Auto Workers in their support for Franklin Roosevelt's presidential campaign. Most of the artists moonlighted at night to create this short. There some nice designs here courtesy of Jack Schwartz and also some interesting camera angles too.

Chuck Jones - "Feed The Kitty"

My sons have quite the appetite for classic cartoons. But my four year old is already showing signs of become a cartoon junkie like his old man. He's always going through my DVD collection and asking to watch everything from Woody Woodpecker to Barney Bear to Herman and Katnip. We've been on Droopy overload at home since the DVD came out. He carries a damn Droopy beany with him whenever we go out. Which is fine with me since I'm a Tex Avery fanatic. For some reason he never showed much interest in Warner shorts but over the last week or so he's finally discovered Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes crew. In particular he's hooked on Chuck Jones' "Feed The Kitty". After watching for the hundredth time I realized I had a model sheet from the short so I figured I'd post it. Now, does anyone have any idea how to explain to him that there aren't any Pussyfoot toys? His answer is "We can get it at the Pussyfoot thtore."

This guy digs the classics

Charlie Dog

Here's a couple of models of Chuck Jones' Charlie Dog. Bob Clampetts' "Porky's Pooch" laid the foundation for what would later become the premise behind the cartoons. I like the idea of a dog doing whatever he can to impress someone to be his master but Charlie tends to annoy me a little. I like the cartoons but I don't think I could watch them back to back.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I've been working on a project at night with a friend and hopefully we'll have something nice and stupid to show for it soon.
