Jim Tyer Scene from Movie Madness

Jim Tyer is one of my favorite animators, I don't think there's anyone like him. The way he distorts characters and moves them from pose to pose is so unique. I could see how his work could be a little jarring to someone who's never seen it before because he goes off model quite frequently and there's always something crazy going on. But if you love funny drawings he's great. I'm really just starting to learn to animate, in fact the Goober cartoon is my first attempt at animating, but I hope as I progress that one day I'll be able to animate a fraction as funny and lively as him. Here's some screen shots to illustrate how he gets from pose to pose and a clip of his animation from Movie Madness there's a lot the same approach even with more subtle movements, enjoy.

Foghorn Leghorn

Hanna Barbera's War Dogs

Here's War Dogs, directed by Hanna Barbera in 1943. I love pretty much any cartoon I've seen that they've directed with Ken Muse and Irv Spence animating, this one is no exception. We'll see how long Dailymotion lasts. Enjoy.

Some More Warner's Model Sheets. Oh, and YouTube blows.

Here's a couple of more Warner Bros. model sheets. You may have noticed that the cartoons I posted are no longer available. YouTube had been slowly removing them until yesterday when the last of them were removed. My account was deleted and I'm even unable to create a new account and post anything, which sucks because even my lame pencil tests have been taken down. I signed up to Dailymotion and will upload stuff there from now on. I'm going to start by uploading my own work and then maybe I can move on to posting the cartoons that I had on YouTube. Though I'm sure they'll suffer the same fate, eventually. I find it to be retarded that some material that will probably never see the light of day (ie, Terrytoons and Walter Lantz shorts) are no longer even available in the form of shitty downloads. Why are companies so afraid of changing their business model. YouTube is like free advertising. Where else can you have people promote your product for you for free! The videos are all of shit quality, so who wouldn't run out and pick up a DVD of something they liked that they saw there. I'll end this rant by saying that NBC/Universal and YoutTube are balls.

Bob Camp's Notes

Here's some notes by Bob Camp. I thought these are from a lecture Bob gave at the School of Visual Arts (thanks Steve) Note the Kurztman reference of page six, I've already posted a Hey Look! comic and it's a good example of line of action in drawings. Anyone know what became of Bob after his time at Games studios? He did direct some good cartoons at Spumco. Check out Bob's cool blog.

Some Sketches

Enough of those great Warner Bros. model sheets, it's time to scrape the bottom of the barrel with some of my drawings. Here's some sketches of Bruno, one of the bees that lays an ass whoopin' on Goober. I'm still working on improving this character design though I think he may be easier to animate this way. He's pretty simple to draw.

I'll be scanning some more WB model sheets real soon. The next batch will be of Warner's minor characters.

Daffy Duck Model Sheets

Here's some Daffy model sheets. As a kid Daffy and Bugs were my favorite characters, they still are but I really have little interest in the cartoons from the mid to late 50's. I mean how horrible was the pairing of Daffy and Speedy Gonzalez? Somewhere along the line Daffy was ruined and turned into a jerk. There's still some funny moments but I prefer Daffy when he was... well, daffy. My favorite Daffy cartoons are "The Great Piggy Bank Robbery" and "Yankee Doodle Daffy", they're hilarious.
