Here's a few model sheets of the characters from "The Cuckoo", part of David Hand's Animaland series. This is definitely one of the better cartoons of the series. Thad posted it over a year ago on his blog, so go check it out if you've never seen it before. Sorry the not high resolution, they're taken from the model sheet gallery on the DVD.
What Is David Hand's Animal Series Anyway? (I Mean, I Haven't Even Heard Of It)
ReplyDeleteDavid Hand was an animator and director at Disney. He headed the British GB Animation studio and one of the series was Animaland. A few of the short revolved around the character Ginger Nutt. They're available on DVD for like ten bucks. The animation is great and I love the backgrounds and music but I doubt anyone will be falling out of their chair laughing at this stuff.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching that - boy, was it dark! The song was rather good and I really admire the model sheets of the weasel. Sort of reminds me of an evil Wile. E Coyote. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese are so dynamic! A perfect example of line of action. I have never seen the animaland series, but now I am curious. Those characters must flow so well when animated.
ReplyDeleteHi, interesting comments. I was a teenage production messenger at the Moor Hall Studios in the late 1940s. A couple of years ago it became apparent the whole G.B. Animation studios and crew were disappearing into time. So I started a research project, Wrote a "memories" article and things came out of the woodwork. You can see it at www.angelfire.com/nj/healing/moorhallstudios.html. Enjoy. Bob Egby
ReplyDeleteHi Bob, I actually read your article a while ago. I made sure to bookmark it, though I should've included it in my post. It's a great article and anyone interested in this series should give it a read. Thanks Bob.

ReplyDeleteBob,
Thank you so much for writing that article . It's important for this animation history to be preserved .
Another English cartoon series I like a lot is 'Bubble & Squeak', directed by George Moreno for British Animated Productions.
