Bob McKimson - "One Meat Brawl"

Here's the only appearance of Grover Groundhog voiced by Stan Freberg. I've been watching McKimson shorts a lot lately and having just received the new Looney Tunes set as a gift, I was pleasantly surprised by the short McKimson feature on it.

  1. Some of Rod Scribner's last animation for Warners (before he went on leave) is in this cartoon. The first half of the song is his (the second half is Art Davis'), and that bit with Porky crying over the supposed gopher's death is his too.

  5. This cartoon was awesome! It feels like an Art Davis cartoon, yet it's McKimson at the helm. My favorite McKimson cartoons were from his first five years directing, 1946 to about 1950. Thanks for uploading this, Kevin.

  6. the voice of the gopher just slays me. "That's one dollar. Would you like to try for two?"

probably my favorite use of the 3 1/2 yrs old line so far!

  7. Very funny. Stan Freberg, you didn't mentioon, was also the Hick Mouse in A Hick, A Slick and a Chick, (Mel Blanc excepted in the champagne scene), with Bea Benadaret asd the Chick and Mel Blanc again as the hick (the first two of course were in the Chuck Jones Three Bears with Bill Bletcher except the first).

Very funny..I noted it was released I think in January 1947, TWO months after the last WB cartoons, maybe because of the 1946 Christmas season. "No bobby sox....no nair pins..no polo ponies...no groundhog beds..":) I think his song "A Groundog and his shadow" was an original.
