Art Davis - "The Foxy Duckling"

Here's another short from Art Davis' great crew. I love the design of the fox, the model sheet was drawn by Tom McKimson.

Another rare but enjoyable gem, knangly. Thanks for sharing.

In some places, I keep thinking that the role seems rather suited for Daffy Duck. Then again it would be a different cartoon altogether. I'll admit as well that the ending was rather grim in its way :P

With its dark tone (in such a pedantic storyline), this is probably the closest we ever got to a Shamus Culhane cartoon at Warners. (That's not to say I don't like it!)

I love the diving board gag by Don Williams! So beautifully timed.

Another one of my favorite Davis shorts. I agree with you, the fox design is quite awesome. Don Williams tended to do the best animation in Davis' cartoons when Emery Hawkins was'nt around, IMO.

The art is great, However I didn't feel like the characters had any real personality. I can't put my finger on exactly what they were missing. I guess neither character had enough specifics to make me identify with them. It looks great tho.

That chase in the hereafter was borred for"Mouse Mazaurka" (1948) by Freleng.

Also,Christopher is right...first time viewers would untiul they saw the sucking think that this is just another Daffy short.Espcially with Davis using Daffy so well and so often.

Also do you have Pest that Came to Dinner by Davis (also IMHO the oldest produced post-1948 WB short.)

Great cartoon, although the ending sorta sucked. It's just that it seemed like there should've been a little something more at the end, instead of them just running off. Even if it ended with a corny-as-hell line, it would have made it a little better. But that's just my opinion.

Although the feather gag has been done numerous times before, it never gets old to me. The timing of this particular one was hilarious, you barely see the fox leave the screen. It's so quick that if you blink, you'll miss it.

Before today, I have never seen this cartoon before. Thanks for posting another great Art Davis cartoon, Kev! Just out of curiosity, how many cartoons did Davis make at Warners, & out of that number, how many have you put up on your site so far?

Davis directed like 21 or 22 cartoons at WB. He animated on a whole bunch more though. I've posted only six or so. But don't worry I'll keep 'em coming.
